An advantage of CC is that it bridges a gap between family systems thinking and efficacy theory, where extant research and theory have focused on the self-efficacy of one or both parents. This study aimed to develop a self-reported measure of CC. Methodology: Participants (n = 302), including cohabiting mothers (n = 240) and fathers (n = 62), completed an online survey (112 items) comprising demographic questions, the Coparenting Relationship Scale (CRS), the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale (PSOC), the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and 36 items designed to explore perceptions of CC. Results: Factor analyses on 36-CC items identified 10 items that reliably formed a brief Coparenting Competence Scale (CCS; Alpha = 0.89). Analysis of convergent and divergent validity demonstrated that the CCS measures a unique construct that is linked to parenting self-efficacy, measured by PSOC (r = 0.47), and coparenting quality, assessed by the CRS (r = 0.63). There was a significant association between CCS and SDQ across age groups and an association stronger than that found for the CRS and SDQ in the current cohort. Conclusions and Implications: The study found support for the reliability and validity of the CCS. Coparenting competence, assessed by the CCS, was found to be distinct from factors previously used to represent coparenting quality in multivariate scales. The strength of associations between the CCS and SDQ suggests this new measure may have an important role in coparenting research.]]> Wed 27 Sep 2023 15:30:02 AEST ]]> Parent Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Outcomes from the Translational ‘Time for Healthy Habits’ Trial: Secondary Outcomes from a Partially Randomized Preference Trial https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52043 Wed 27 Sep 2023 10:07:11 AEST ]]> Prevalence and relationships among physical activity policy, environment, and practices in licensed childcare centers from a manager and staff perspective https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41143 Wed 27 Jul 2022 15:01:25 AEST ]]> Effects of an acute physical activity break on test anxiety and math test performance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37128 Wed 27 Apr 2022 14:47:41 AEST ]]> Factors associated with the perception of risk and knowledge of contracting the SARS-CoV-2 among adults in Bangladesh: Analysis of online surveys https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44926 Wed 26 Oct 2022 16:42:19 AEDT ]]> Determinants of overall satisfaction with public clinics in rural China: interpersonal care quality and treatment outcome https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45166 p < 0.001), followed by two interpersonal care quality aspects, Dignity (being treated respectfully) (β = 0.219 (95% CI: 0.117 to 0.320); p < 0.001) and Communication (clear explanation by the physician) (β = 0.103 (95% CI: 0.003 to 0.203); p = 0.043). Nevertheless, 77% of women who had separated >10 years ago rated their recovery as significant (scores of >70/100). Surprisingly, hope and recovery scores were only moderately correlated. This requires further investigation to determine what impacts on hope in long-term recovery, and how subjective and objective measures of hope and recovery vary in the context of IPV. The VAS was an efficient unidimensional measure for an online survey and is proposed for use in clinical and service contexts requiring subjective measures.]]> Mon 13 Nov 2023 08:47:17 AEDT ]]> Considerations for Evaluating the Introduction of New Cancer Screening Technology: Use of Interval Cancers to Assess Potential Benefits and Harms https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50771 Mon 13 May 2024 14:09:19 AEST ]]> The efficacy of workplace interventions on improving the dietary, physical activity and sleep behaviours of school and childcare staff: a systematic review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39012 Mon 11 Apr 2022 14:42:27 AEST ]]> The Impact of Podiatric Intervention on the Quality of Life and Pain in Children and Adolescents with Hypermobility https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52345 The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of custom-made orthotics on pain, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), function and fatigue in children and adolescents with generalised joint hypermobility (GJH) and lower limb pain. Fifty-three children aged 5–18 years were fitted with custom-made polypropylene orthotics. Visual analogue scale (VAS) assessed lower limb pain severity, Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory assessed HRQoL and fatigue and six-minute walk test (6 MWT) measured functional endurance at baseline, at 1 month and 3 months post-intervention. A mixed model including a random intercept for participant and a fixed effect for time was used to assess differences in outcomes over time. Fifty-two children completed the study (mean age 10.6-years). Children reported significantly reduced pain (mean VAS reduction −27/100, 95%CI: −33, −21), improved HRQoL (mean total improvement 11/100, 95%CI: 7, −15), functional capacity (mean 6MWT improvement 27 m, 95%CI: 18, −36) and fatigue (mean total improvement 13/100, 95%CI: 9, −17) after 1 month of wearing the custom-made orthotics. From 1 month to 3 months there was further statistically but not clinically significant reduction in pain while benefit on other outcomes was maintained. In this study, children with GJH reported reduced lower limb pain, improved HRQoL, functional endurance and fatigue after a month post-fitting of custom-made orthotics which was maintained over a 3 month period. Orthotics were well-tolerated with no serious adverse events reported.]]> Mon 09 Oct 2023 14:57:37 AEDT ]]> “You Can’t Replace That Feeling of Connection to Culture and Country”: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Parents’ Experiences of the COVID-19 Pandemic https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50827 Mon 07 Aug 2023 14:42:53 AEST ]]> Association between time spent on smart devices and change in refractive error: a 1-year prospective observational study among Hong Kong children and adolescents https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38397 Mon 06 Sep 2021 12:22:40 AEST ]]> Perceived Provision of Perioperative Information and Care by Patients Who Have Undergone Surgery for Colorectal Cancer: A Cross-Sectional Study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51403 Mon 04 Sep 2023 14:50:08 AEST ]]> Enhancing engagement of fathers in web-based preventive parenting programs for adolescent mental health: A discrete choice experiment https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:40356 Fri 22 Jul 2022 15:05:21 AEST ]]> Interventions to Improve Child Physical Activity in the Early Childhood Education and Care Setting: An Umbrella Review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48978 Fri 21 Apr 2023 09:21:50 AEST ]]> Associations between the chronotypes and eating habits of Hong Kong school-aged children https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38400 p > 0.05). The evening-type was associated with significantly greater odds of viewing television (TV) during meals (adjusted odds ratios (OR) = 5.62 in boys and 5.39 in girls). Evening-oriented boys were prone to skipping breakfast (adjusted OR = 14.78), whereas evening-oriented girls were at risk of consuming fast food (adjusted OR = 7.74). There are indications of some gender differences in chronotype-related eating patterns. Sleep duration and screen time significantly mediated the associations between later chronotypes and unhealthy eating habits.
